Internet Search Tips
Techniques I use frequently on Google.com

- Use “quotation marks” to filter results by a particular term
- Filtering for more recent results by clicking “search tools” then “any time” and selecting perhaps “Past year” —
- Scrolling to the bottom of the page of results and seeing if there are related terms that might be smarter to search on:
- If there are no related terms, try clicking on page 2, 3, 4 of search results. I’m often surprised how some of the best articles are not on the first page, yet most people don’t bother to go beyond it.
- When I land on a webpage, using the “find on page” feature to look for the term I’m interested in. This is usually done with Control-F on Windows or Command-F on a Mac. “It takes 12 percent of your search time if you don’t know this…I just gave you 12 percent of your life back. You rarely get that kind of a deal.” —Daniel Russell, Tech Lead for Google Search Quality
- A good image is worth many words. Try searching a topic via images.
- You can often find very helpful tutorials, on just about any topic (especially technology or marketing) by going to Youtube.com and searching there.
